Ganga 3 110} ... This village is three miles north of Ywa-tha.
Monat-pyin ... 2i 112f aaa North of Ganga village. Consists of two parts and eoaA tains 70 huts. There is a walled pagoda near it on the bank of the river, Leaving this village proceed in a northerly direction by the cart road and arrive at Pyin-ma-ka village.
Pyin-ma-ka ... 3i 116 ... This is said to contain 2,000 inhabitants. A small stream runs through the village. It is crossed by a bridge measuring 42 paces by 4. There are a great many ruined pagodas about this place.
Pagan Ananda pagoda. 1 117 The city of Pagan is only 1 mile north of Pyin-ma-ka, and is said to contain 7,000 inhabitants. This is the ancient capital of Burma. Ruins of the old ramparts az* still to be seen. Nothing has been done to reus* them. There are many pagodas here that with slight alteratioa* could be used for magazines and store-houses. Of theft pagodas one is worthy of especial notice. It is *tlr the Ananda pagoda. It is situated on high ground witk a cluster of monasteries and zayats close by, and Aitt a few improvements and alterations could he very strong fort. It is contained within a willA! enclosure which has four gates, one on each sidaA Besides these there are strong doors within the miroii itself. Here troops might be quartered. * ^--t-At this place Burmese toilet and betel boxes are "TW-factured.
Nyoung-oo ... 3i 12a \ aaa Leaving Pagan proceed in a north-easterly direction to Nyoung-oo. This is a commercial town, and contrite about 3,500 inhabitants.
Shway-zee-gone pagoda. Here is a famous pagoda called Shway-zee-gone. A. Im men are kept to watch the pagoda, as it contains sont jewellery belonging to the late Queen of Ava. ' In no respect is this pagoda inferior to Ananda. Hot superior boxes are manufactured. A road leads trl Nyoung-oo to Yay-dwin-gone, H miles to the north-eart. This meets the telegraph road at a point one AA Nyoung-oo.
