shallows, and in places dashing in the whitest of foam over the tops of the coral formation.
The harbour of Nukualofa consists of a large open bay, somewhat sheltered by the islands and reefs, though affording no very secure safeguard against a hurricane from the north. But here, unlike many of the primitive harbours in these islands, the steamers draw up alongside a good wooden wharf, connected by a causeway with the shore, a nasty-looking reef bordering the coast closer in.
