There are now about 1200 native and 200 European patients, and Soember Porrong is being steadily enlarged.
All forms of compulsion are excluded ; the patients are allowed as much freedom as possible. There are no walls round the buildings

Patients who are inclined to work, are afforded every opportunity : cattle-breeding, vegetable-growing and several kinds of handicraft are carried on, e. a. baskets making. Both the native and European patients have clubs, where bioscope, wayang and gamalang performances are given.
