THE OFFICIAL TOURIST BUREAU OF JAVA.
- aAareA the bei
Some twenty years ago Java was hardly known as a Tourists resort but to a favoured few. This changed when Miss Scidmoreas account of her travels was published in 1897.
The vivid description a so well related in Java, the Garden of the East a of one of the most beautiful countries of the universe, induced a good many travellers to include Java in their itineraries and Tourist Traffic to Java increased, be it in moderate numbers.
The importance of inducing foreign Tourists to visit a country, goes without saying. It is not only a source of income for the native population, but it also brings the consumer of its products into personal contact with the country itself, thus in many cases creating lasting business connections. At the same time it causes a better understanding between nations who before hardly knew each other.
This fact was not unobserved by the prominent business men in Java and some 12 years ago a meeting was called in Batavia, at which
meeting were considered the best steps to be taken, in order to encourage Tourist traffic from abroad to Java. This led to the founding of the Official Tourist Bureau.
