Past Bandjarnegara the aspect of the country changes into a more hilly one which is very beautiful and in a little while Wonosobo is reached.
This small town, the seat of an Assistant-Resident is on an altitude of about 3400 and boasts of a most delightful climate. Outside of some walks through the town and in the vicinity it has little of interest, a bathing place named Mangli being about all there is to be seen. But it is as the starting place for the excursion to the Dieng Plateau, one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of Java which at the same time is the place where remains of one of the oldest settlements of Hindu occupation are found and which is on an altitude of nearly 7000a, that Wonosobo is visifed.
