such, although some have their own operating room, staff of nurses etc. They are more or less large hotels with a physician attached.
In all the hotels where the tourist stops and as a matter of fact in most of the hotels in Java, the sanatory conditions are excellent. The water in these hotels served as drinking water is always boiled and can be taken with impunity, the bath rooms, lavatories etc. are always cleanly kept and in some of the mountain ressorts, they have installations for hot water bathing. As a rule the bathing water in the hotels is cold.
Summing up, Java is an ideal country for residents of the neighbouring lands who are run down or depressed from a long stay in the tropics, whilst for sick people the best treatment possibly to be expected, will be afforded against small medical fees and comparatively low charges in Sanatoria and hospitals.
THINGS WORTH KNOWING.
THE NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES.
Is the collective name of all the islands found between the South East part of Asia and the North West part of Australia. They extend from longitude East 95A to 141A and from latitude North 6A to 11A. Sometimes they are called Indonesia. The well known Netherland author Douwes Dekker not inaptly called them aInsu-lindea.
There have been many disputes in scientific circles as to which continent these islands belong. It is generally suppossed and seems to be confirmed by the difference in flora and fauna of the different islands that Sumatra, Java and Borneo with the islands adjacent to them, once formed part of the great Asiatic continent, whilst the Islands to the East and New Guinea once were part of the Australian Continent.
