Add to this that the hotels in Java are considered to be the best in the Far East, giving good service, cuisine and accommodation combined with cleanliness, for comparatively little money, whilst its sanatoria and the mountain resorts offer a delightful climate, it is to be understood that most travellers to Java only leave the Island with a feeling of regret, whilst its praises are loudly sung in books and newspapers by those who have visited it.
Java a South coast.
There is no knowledge of more importance to the Travellers in a foreign country, than the climate.
Java, although a tropical country,, is singularly blessed in this respect. The mean temperature along the coast is not a very high one for the tropics, modified as it is by the insular conditions. In the hills it is like during a moderate summer in Southern Europe, and for some of the higher places even less, At an average can be said that the temperature decreases about half a degree for every 100 Meters (328 feet) difference in altitude.
Add to this an eveness in daily temperature, which makes the taking of precautions against rapid changes and extremes unnecessary, it may safely be said that no tropical country offers a more deligtful climate for the Tourist than Java.
Unbearable summer-heat is never experienced here, nor do rapid and dangerous changes in temperature take place, whilst continual rains and cyclones are not known.
