Laag'Soa (148 km. in 5% hrs.), the capital of the province of the same name and by far the most important city on the N.E. frontier, is situated on the right bank of the Song Ki-kong, in a plain surrounded by pretty mamelons and picturesque rocky hills. The town is chiefly interesting as a starting point for a visit to the Cao-bang regions (a mountain district in E. Tongking) and to Long-tchA(c)ou, an important Chinese city on the other side of the frontier. The town contains a post and telegraph office and a European grocery store.
